Graduate Women in Science (GWIS)
A national organization dedicated to:
- Promoting scientific research through grants, awards, and fellowships
- Advancing women in scientific research
- Recognizing contributions to research and science education
For more than 100 years, GWIS has empowered women as individuals and as a community. Since 1921, we have advanced the participation and recognition of women in scientific fields through funding, collaboration, and professional support. Today, with over 1,000 members worldwide, the organization is stronger than ever. The Madison Chapter (originally the Beta Chapter) was established in 1922.
