Become a GWIS officer!

Serving as an officer for GWIS is a great way to make an impact on the direction of our organization. If you care about women’s issues, science careers, and outreach, it’s an opportunity to start up new programs to benefit yourself and your community.

It’s an opportunity to make connections – not just with other officers, but with departments across campus and experts in our fields who want to hear what you have to say. It’s also an opportunity to make friends with like-minded people!

(And, we might add, something to put on your CV.)

We’re recruiting for the 2017-2016 school year! Our transition meeting will take place at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, May 23.

Fill out this form to apply!

Dinner and Conversation: Perspectives and Strategies toward Gender Bias – May 3

May 3, 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Location TBD – save the date!

We hear a lot these days about awareness and recognizing instances of bias, but it is easy to feel a little powerless in the face of institutionalized discrimination and a patriarchal society. We’d like to address this with a group discussion about strategies to combat gender bias, with an eye towards women’s experiences in STEM.

Let’s sit down over dinner and chat! Anyone interested in learning about ways to empower yourself and others is welcome. We’ll draw on quotes from Dr. Sadiye Rieder, an immunologist recently featured in GWIS LEAD, as well as on our own varied experiences and perspectives to shed some light on this challenging topic.
